Fall 2007 Auditions

This coming school year (2007-08) NYS will forego their usual audition process in exchange for a new procedure. Many children, especially those as young as 2nd or 3rd grade "freeze up" during a pressured audition. 10-15 minutes is also not enough time to accurately assess the kind of music a child can handle over a period of weeks/months especially at the start of a school year.

We will, of course, require a teacher's recommendation but we believe better assessments will be obtained by inviting all prospective student musicians to "sit-in" for a few of our ongoing rehearsals throughout Sept/Oct for free. During these rehearsals, musicians will be judged in a more relaxed environment as to their ability to learn required music, play in new keys, respond to the conductors, etc.

So we hope to see all you newcomers and your parents at some of these rehearsals. If we all agree that NYS is a "good fit" for you and your child, we will offer a prorated tuition for the rest of our first semester.
