Welcome to our website! Founded in 2000, the Northside Youth Symphony is a non-profit organization for band and orchestra students from the Chicagoland area. Entering our 8th year, we are the only full youth symphony serving primarily elementary/middle school aged musicians on a year-round basis on the North Side. We do accept high school musicians as well. NYS rehearses at Northside College Prep HS (Foster & Kedzie.) We meet every Tuesday evening during the spring and fall semesters and Tuesdays & Thursdays during the 3-wk summer session.

2007/08 is exciting for us as we introduce the new "World Music" curriculum. Students will be learning more about the culture, history and lifestyles of the composers whose music we perform as well as exploring their own family's heritage. Plans are underway for the "International Nite" concert where new and exotic instruments will be showcased and students will be able to play them. NYS has had a varied history. In 2006 the Chamber Strings performed at the ASTA National Conference in Kansas City as part of the National Orchestra Festival. In years past we have also had guest artists perform with us such as Johnny Frigo, the Bow-Dacious String Band and the Lincoln Elem Jazz Band. So whether you are a beginner just learning to read music or an advanced junior high student looking for a challenging chamber ensemble, the Northside Youth Symphony has something for everyone. Averaging about 70 members a semester, NYS is an exciting group to belong to. So browse thru our site and contact us! We'd love to meet you!
